How to play it
Why this exercise

These patterns develop string crossing and coordination between nearby fretboard positions.

  1. Pattern 1: on the 6th string play frets 8, 10, and 12; then move to the 5th string and play 8, 10, and 12; finish on the 4th string playing 9 and 10.
  2. Pattern 2: start on the 5th string and play frets 3, 5, and 7; then move to the 4th string and play 3, 5, and 7; finish on the 3rd string playing 4 and 5.
  3. Play each pattern ascending and keep the string order: 6 → 5 → 4, then 5 → 4 → 3.
  4. Do not use strings 1 or 2 in this exercise.
  5. Practice each pattern slowly, then connect both without losing the pulse.
Today's tip

Practice the 6 → 5 → 4 pattern first, then the 5 → 4 → 3 pattern.
