How to play it
Why this exercise
Here you play twice as many notes per click, without losing clean sound. It trains your fretting hand and picking hand to land at exactly the same time.
- Use the same 1-2-3-4 pattern, but now play 2 notes per click (eighth notes).
- Rotate the finger order each week and pick a different permutation to keep the exercise varied.
- Finger permutations: 1234, 1243, 1324, 1342, 1423, 1432, 2134, 2143, 2314, 2341, 2413, 2431, 3124, 3142, 3214, 3241, 3412, 3421, 4123, 4132, 4213, 4231, 4312, 4321.
- Count out loud "1-and, 2-and, 3-and, 4-and" while you play.
- Keep using alternate picking: ↓ ↑ ↓ ↑.
- Start at the BPM where 1 note per click already feels easy.
Today's tip
Play 1-2-3-4 on each string, 2 notes per click. Stay precise.
