How to play it
Why this exercise
Trains each of your 4 fingers to move on its own. Without this, your pinky always lags behind and fast solos sound rushed and messy.
- 6th string: finger 1 on fret 5, finger 2 on fret 6, finger 3 on fret 7, finger 4 on fret 8.
- Play them in the order 1-3-2-4, not 1-2-3-4. Jumping the order forces each finger to move on its own.
- Each finger stays down on its fret until it is its turn to move.
- Move to the 5th string, keeping the same pattern.
- If finger 4 lifts up by accident, drop 10 BPM until you have it under control.
Today's tip
Place fingers 1-2-3-4 on consecutive frets of the 6th string, one finger per fret.
